What the tool does not do
It does not calculate your commercial margin: the cost of your goods is not part of the calculation. It measures precisely what the platform, the gateways and the apps take from you — the part most merchants never look at in detail.
Verifiable rates, nothing invented
The built-in Shopify Payments rates come straight from the official U.S. pricing page: 2.9% + $0.30 on Basic, 2.7% on Grow, 2.5% on Advanced. Third-party gateway surcharge: 2% / 1% / 0.6%. Rates checked in August 2026.
The rates that depend on your own contract — PayPal, Adyen, your own provider — are deliberately left blank. They vary by volume and payment method, and a plausible but wrong figure would skew your whole calculation without you noticing. You enter the one from your own statement; as long as the field is empty, that gateway stays out of the comparison instead of wrongly showing up as the cheapest. Every value, including the pre-filled ones, remains editable.
